Soul
Reaver glances over to Kawanua.
"As of right now, I'm unsure. Jobaber has been destroyed,
and Ella cannot get in without his aid. It seems we will need
another plan."
He notes several wounds on Kawanua's body, and the scorched
appearance of his wings.
"It might be best if you sat out this battle, Kawanua. Once
you are rested, you can rejoin us. But now, I will take care
of our predicament."
He walks over to Tamrissa.
"Tamrissa, if you don't mind, I would like to try my own
method of pursasion on the Chaos spy. This will be unpleasant,
so anyone with objections to brutality would be well advised
to raise their concerns now... or at the very least, turn
their heads away."
Silence greets him.
"Very well then."
Soul Reaver walks into the rough building where the chaos
spy lies dazed on the ground. He is just awakening from his
uncounciousness when a harsh, cold gauntlet seizes him by the
back of his shirt. Protesting, he is dragged unceremoniously
along the ground, and thrown up against the wall outside. His
vision blurred and senses still muddled, he thinks he is being
manhandled by Tamrissa.
"Bitch! Get your hands -"
He quickly falls silent as his vision returns to reveal a
grim looking male face staring him in the eyes. Flecks of
crimson crackle in the brown irises. Though little emotion can
be seen on his visage, the spy knows he is facing something
very upleasant.
"Your tongue is vile, puppet of chaos! That surely is no
way to refer to the lady."
The chaos spy swallows loudly.
"Now, I believe that you may be able to help me. I am
currently faced by a dilemma - I need to enter the temple of
the Chaos Lords. I know that you know what I am talking about.
However, unless I'm mistaken, there is a force field around
the base. I need to know how to get through it. Your
assistance would be appreciated."
The chaos spy spits in Soul Reaver's face. He is
disconcerted to note that Soul Reaver does not even blink when
this happens.
"You won't get anything out of me!" he snarls. He is
obviously speaking more out of false bravado now than actual
courage. His voice is quiver.
Soul Reaver stands back slightly. He wipes his face with
the back of his hand.
"I see. I asked you kindly the first time. Now, I suppose I
must use the art of subtle pursuasion."
Soul Reaver reaches into the small leather pouch by his
side. He draws out a small steel ball, smaller than his fist.
It is completely smooth, and reflects the spy's sweating
face.
"Do you know what this is? No, I thought not. This is a
device of my own creation... it is called a Thorn Sphere." as
Soul Reaver speaks, the Thorn Sphere begins to shift. With a
metallic crackling, numerous razor-sharp barbs begin to rise
from its surface as if it were some sort of malleable liquid.
They grow steadily, branching into more and more spikes as
they grow. A quiet crackling fills the air. Suddenly, all the
spines withdraw, and Soul Reaver is holding a plain sphere
again.
The spy is shaking.
"Will you tell me what you know?"
The spy rudely informs Soul Reaver of his answer.
"Very well."
Soul Reaver's eyes blaze crimson, and the spy suddenly
finds his right hand rising of it's own accord. It closes over
the Thorn Sphere, and rises, shaking madly, to his mouth. His
eyes wide in terror, he places the Thorn Sphere in his
mouth... and swallows it painfully.
The burning light in Soul Reaver's eyes subsides, and the
spy jerks backwards. He places his hands on his stomach.
"What have you done??!!"
Soul Reaver says nothing as he raises his fist into the
air. Slowly, he spreads his fingers.
The spy begins to gasp, then scream. He collapses to the
ground, clutching his stomach, and rolls around in agony. He
begins to cough up blood.
"Enough?"
The spy continues screaming. Soul Reaver clenches his hand
back into a fist.
"Well?"
Sobbing, the spy answers:
"Shoulder insignia! That's how
you get it!!"
"Go on."
"Every soldier from inside the temple wears a chaos
insignia on his right shoulder that can cancel the field in a
localised area! It's true! I swear!"
Soul Reaver looks down at him emotionlessly. He gestures
once, and the Thorn Sphere materialises in his hand. He casts
a quick healing spell over the spy.
"Fortunately for you, you won't have any lasting effects
from the Thorn Sphere. However, I will leave your fate in the
lady's hands."
Soul Reaver gestures Tamrissa over. Her face is somewhat
whiter than before.
"You can decide of what to do with him, although I think he
has received punishment enough. And we now know how to enter
the temple... we merely need to ambush one of the temple guard
troops patrolling outside."
