The Imperial Guardsmen stationed on the ramparts of the city walls are tense. Since the attack of the warp wraiths earlier, they had been set at double guard and were on full alert. The soldiers, in their long cloaks and face masks that protected them from the sand blasting from the outside of the wall, were now also wearing their flack amour underneath it. They march back and forth along the ramparts, clutching their high powered assault rifles tightly. Each had a laspistol tucked into their belt and a chainsword sheathed across their back. They watched the desert carefully.
The Marines manning the chain gun turrets and the lascannons were also a bit nervous, for two reasons. In full amour, strapped into the turrets, they were fully aware of everything that was going on around them. But they were also monitoring a video feed of the briefing, watching as their Lord threatened the Dark Eldar warrior. Even so, it was a chain gun operator who noticed the small creature first.
Jerked to full attention, the gunner marine sighted in on the creature and zoomed in. He recognized it easily; a Tyranid. A smaller Genestealer, no doubt. He quickly activated his comlink while he locked on to his target.
"Gunner 6 to HQ, I'm locked on to what appears to be a lone Tyranid in my sweep zone. Course of action?"
The Marine's radio crackles inside his headset.
"HQ to Gunner 6. Taking a snapshot of your scope view now. Await conformation."
The Marine waits patiently, when suddenly, he sees something that startles him. The genestealer makes a strange motion, and suddenly 10 more burrow out from beneath the sand. They begin to move forward just as the Marine's radio crackles again.
"HQ to Gunner 6, we have confirmed the target as Tyranid. Open fire."
The Marine responds quickly, his voice harsh with battle lust.
"Gunner 6 to Command! I'm reading multiple targets approaching fast! Opening fire!"
The Marine slams back both triggers and the chaingun roars to life, ripping the smaller creatures to shreds. But as they fall, 20 larger stealers rise up from the ground to take their place. Soon, all the radio is full of traffic as Tyranid genestealers begin to sprout from the ground all around the outside of the city walls. Chain guns roar as the Marines open fire, and the Guardsmen begin firing their rifles from the walls. The HQ post, centered about a mile from the main gate, quickly sounds the red alert. Air raid sirens begin to sound all over the city. The workers who were working in the construction zone just inside the wall rush back into the city to find their families. Skyscrapers are abandoned as the citizens head for their designated shelters.
In the Command Center, Cameron watches Arhra leave, and then looks down at his glowing blade. He had drawn it, and had yet to use it, and now the battle lust of the blade threatened to overwhelm him. He is finally able to overcome it and sheathe the blade again, and the sheath locks over it. he turns to Tamrissa.
"Never draw the blade unless you absolutely need to. If there aren't enough enemies to satisfy the sword's battle lust, it may cause you to turn on your allies. That's why we all carry normal blades as well. Well, except for Karyl. He carries that stupid guitar."
Karyl sputters as the other elementals eye the guitar strapped to his back..
"What? My guitar is NOT stupid, dude! At least I have a hobby!"
Cameron grins and turns towards the Marines, who are putting away their sidearms.
"Aldaris, thanks for handling the briefing for me. Now we should all turn in. We have a long- "
Cameron is interrupted as the air raid sirens begin to sound. Acting quickly, Cameron begins barking orders.
"Marines! MOVE! We're under attack! Get going! Suit up and get into formation! GO! GO! GO!"
The Marines rush from the chamber. Cameron turns to the companions.
"Well? Looks like we're getting some action a bit early! You guys coming or what?"
Cameron then sprints from the room, followed by the elementals.
