Mary is quick to answer Danyael's question as they climb into the Thunderhawk and sit down.
"He doesn't trust you. Especially not after that incident with Soul."
Mary's outer reaction to seeing Karyl walking towards the Thunderhawk she is in is the groan of the homeowner who knows that the really annoying next door neighbor is about to invite himself in for a cup of tea for the 4th time in 3 hours. However, her inner reaction is one of anger.
I don't need a watchdog, Aileron! Just cause you don't trust him doesn't mean that we all have to share your opinion!Mary can feel warp energy building up inside of her, and as it does, she can feel the warp shields all around her, pushing inwards at her internal energy, keeping it suppressed. It is a real strain to have both forces pushing at her constantly, and she drops her hand into her forhead as a jolt of pain bursts through it. She looks up as Danyael speaks. If Danyael looks into her eyes, he will see that they are slightly clouded over.
"No... it's okay. You didn't do anything."
Mary sits quietly, looking forward.
Karyl jumps into the Thunderhawk with a grin on his face. Upon seeing that most of it's occupants were in his Rhino on the way over, his grin widens!
"Hey dudes! I'm glad you're here! Now I can finish my mini live gig for you guys!"
Karyl makes sure that he unslings his guitar before he sits down. Upon seeing that everyone is boarded, one of the Marine guners closest to the door hits a button, and the back panel closes. The same happens on the other 2 gunships just after the last passengers board. Cameron watches this from the tarmac, where he still stands with Garr and Kari.
"So... you guys will be coming with the last 3 tactical squads, right?"
Garr and Kari both nod. Kari speaks.
"Yes. We need to make sure that those earthquakes didn't upset the Tower's balance of energy, and it's a two person job. Karyl's never been one for technical jobs like that, and Mary seems a bit... preoccupied."
Cameron: "Fine. I need to go get my Swordfish, and then I'll be headed to the
Starblade. Garr... when you arrive on the
Revenant, please let me know so that I can get you over to the
Starblade before we land. I'm going to need you there. Kari... are you still willing to do that research for me?"
Kari: "Yeah. No problem. Search through the
Apocalypse logs and find out what the name of the guy the daemons crucified was. Why do you need to know that again?"
Cameron: "....Personal reasons. Just consider it as a huge favor to me. I'd do it myself, but I'm needed on my ship."
Kari nods.
"Consider it done. Garr, you coming?"
Garr smiles and bows.
"Lead the way, Lady Katrea. I will follow."
Kari grins.
"Why are you so damm formal all the time?"
Garr thinks for a moment.
"I suppose it must have had something to do with my upbringing. It just feels natural to me."
Kari and Garr continue this conversation as they walk away, but Cameron doesn't hear it. He had already signaled to the Control Tower and then taken off, flying back towards the east end of the city.
The flight techs in the tower see the signal from Cameron and set to work. As the three Thunderhawks close up, their engines fire to life, and they pull forward onto the launch pads. large arms swing over from either side of the pad and attach huge launch engines to the sides of each Thunderhawk. Inside the Thunderhawks, the pilot and gunners fasten themselves in, and each pilot quickly requests that their passengers do the same.
Inside Thunderhawk 2, Mary quickly fastens her saftey restraints. Karyl fastens his, re-arranges the straps so that he can still hold his guitar, and grins.
"This is the perfect time for one of my faster songs! This one's from my fourth album! it will be a smash hit if I ever release any of my albums!"
As Karyl begins to play, large platforms raise under each Thunderhawk, pointing their noses straight into the air. The arms retract as the launch engines roar to life. In the tower, The lead tech begins counting down.
"T-10, 9, 8, 7..."
Smoke billows from the launch engines, and the Thunderhawks begin to shake as if they are going to fall apart. The Marines sit through this calmly, having done it hundreds of times before.
"...6, 5, 4, 3..."
Karyl continues playing, a grin on his face.
"Damm, I love this shit!"
"...2, 1, Ignition!"
All three Thunderhawks lift off at the same time, blasting through the Elemental barrier surrounding the city and into the thin natural atmosphere of Cellaris V itself. Amazingly, Karyl continues to play flawlessly through the entire launch, his guitar rivaling the defening sound of the launch engines. Soon, the Thunderhawks punch out of the atmosphere and into space. The launch engines shut off and detach themselves from the gunships as the ships' main engines kick in. Anyone looking out of the view port will see the
Revenant and the
Apocalypse sitting side by side, with Thunderhawk gunships towing a crippled non-Imperial dropship away from them. The three dropships make a beeline for the two battlecruisers.
