Soul Reaver looks to the side as Natalya questions him. He gives a shrug.

"Yes, I am thinking. And I am also anxious to get out of here. Though I mean no offense to my... friend Cameron, I dislike these craft. Such contraptions of wire and steel threaten to suck away the free will of those inside... they take away one's control over one's own destiny, forcing reliance on their own mindless, soulless mechanical workings..."

He breathes deeply, turning back to the window once more.

"So yes, I am anxious to stand on my own two feet once more."

Finally stepping away from the window to properly talk to Natalya, Soul Reaver gives a sigh.

"The story of who I am is millenia old, Natalya. I have been alive for more years than even I know. In the myriad of planes I have visited, time passes differently than on my homeworld, and so I cannot even begin to guess how old I 'really' am. To tell you everything that has happened to me during this lifetime would take years."

Bitterness starts to creep progressively stronger into Soul Reaver's voice as he continues.

"My homeworld is now nothing more than an dead, radioactive wasteland, and pretty much everyone I know has passed on to the Other Side."

His eyes start to glitter a faint red, the bitterness in his voice rising.

"Everyone is fleeting. Even fellow immortals. And no ties or bonds we seek to build can stop that from being so..."

Soul Reaver's expression darkens at Natalya's question.

"In the past I would have refused to answer such a question. But as it is... well, there is probably little point in hiding it. I have revealed my secret before, and I guess it will make just as little difference now when I reveal it as it did then."

Soul Reaver seats himself down, preparing to relate the tale. Unlike the time in the past when he told only Asaki, he does not seem to care who else listens in. Naturally, he isn't baring his heart nearly as much now... just the facts...

"I was married once, millenia ago, when I was still known by the name Rhavin Ironheart and lived a mortal life. My wife's name was Shaana, and I had a son, Darius.

Unfortunately, I was still married to her when I gained my unasked-for immortality and my powers began to surface. At first I revelled in my powers, realizing the difference I could make with them, bringing down tyrants, conquering evil, leading the forces of 'good' to victory.

Unfortunately I was foolishly ignorant that immortal concerns cannot mix with mortal passions. Time lost meaning. I left Shaana for progressively longer periods as I set out to 'make a difference'."

He almost spits the last words - despite his attempts to remain impassive, his bitterness sweeps over him then. However, he regains his composture and relates the most tragic moments of his life impassively.

"She died in my absence, of an illness. Our home was falling into ruin, and Darius - a young man by that time - had struck out on his own. It turns out he had overthrown our local lord and had replaced him... with personal tyrannical and power-hungry aspirations. I went to try and reason with him, but he blamed me for his abandonment, and attackd me. I do not deny that I was entirely to blame for leaving him and my wife. I then had to make a choice between immortal duty and mortal passion. I chose duty. I killed Darius.

Since then, I have travelled throughout the universe, learning much, meeting many fleeting lives. Occassionally I would feel an attachement to someone, even love, but again and again time and my personal sense of duty would cause them to fade from my life. I never again married, and more and more I avoided emotionally committing myself to anyone else."

He sighs.

"I had hoped to quash the mortal passions in me so that I could fulfill my... my duty. But no matter how long I live, I cannot forget what it means to be mortal, and am always reminded how my mind was not designed to inhabit a body that lives forever."

His gaze then falls with piercing intensity on Natalya - it almost verges on being frightening. His voice is barely over a whisper when he speaks next, and the words echo with hidden emotion and a black undercurrent that rings within Natalya's ears like some sort of death-knell.

"I loved once more, briefly, not too long ago. She was the only other person I have told this to in millenia, before now. And she too was torn from me, proving once more that passion for an immortal means only pain, misery and loss."

After a moment of holding Natalya locked in that fierce gaze, Soul Reaver turns to look at the viewport. His voice again sounds calm when he speaks.

"That must be the Eye of Terror. We are almost there."
