Cameron is slightly concerned with Sypher's overly enthusiastic response, but he says nothing about it. Instead, he turns to the wall that the warp gates were blocking.
"No need to sign anything. We start now."
Cameron's armor suddenly dissapears from around him, leaving him in his marine uniform. He walks towards the wall, motioning for the others to follow him.
As Cameron reaches the wall, he follows it to the left till he reaches a large set of double doors. They are secured, but Cameron types something on a security panel, and the doors slide open. Cameron walks through the doors and emerges on the other side of the wall. Before him lies a gaping hole in the planet's surface, almost a mile across. The hole looks deep, and it is... the shaft runs the whole way to the core of the planet. It is lined with metal. Suspended over the opening of this pit are five gigantic metal discs. These are the planetary stablizers. They are arranged in a square pattern: four smaller discs surrounding a larger disc in the center. They all vibrate slightly, and the companions can hear a hum emitting from them.
Cameron walks toward a catwalk that crosses the chasm between the closest of the two stablizers. There is a moving platform waiting at the catwalk. Cameron waits till all the companions are onboard and then engages the platform. it quickly takes the companions over the chasm, between two of the outer stablizers, and to the large center stablizer. It stops at the edge, and Cameron walks onto the surface of the disc. The vibrations can be felt under the companions feet as they walk. Cameron begins to speak from the front of the group as he continues to move towards the center.
"This is the point of no return. The Thunderhawks are already on their way here now that we've secured this airspace, and the other half of our team is on their way to meet us."
Cameron gestures ahead of him, where a group of people can be seen walking towards him. 6 Thunderhawks roar over the companion's heads. Two of them land at the center of the stablizer, while the other four stay in the air to cover the ground forces. Cameron continues.
"Not all of you are here because you chose to be. I am not intending on forcing anyone to help us with this job. This is the time to make a decision. If you are coming with me to help destroy the Eye, then stay. Otherwise, now would be the time to leave."
Cameron finishes speaking as the group arrives at the two Thunderhawks. The other group hasn't arrived yet. Both Thunderhawks open, and Marines in full armor climb out and stand ready. Cameron turns to face the companions.
"The Thunderhawk to my right is here to take those of you who are coming with me back to the
Revenant, which will lead the charge into the Eye. The other is ready to take anyone who wants to leave back to the spaceport and a shuttle out of here. Once you get far enough away from this area, you'll be able to travel via the warp again. So make your decision now and pick a Thunderhawk."
Cameron moves into the group and pulls Faidth aside.
"Well, I promised I'd help you if you helped us get here, and I will. Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do until this mission is accomplished, but you should be safe here. Board the Thunderhawk going back to the city. I'll make sure you have a place to stay there while we're gone, and when I return, then we'll see about finding out how to get you back to your homeworld."
Cameron turns back and waits to see if any of the other companions will choose to leave.
I can't remember how this got started.
But I can tell you exactly how it will end.
